The politicians seem to think that passing laws changes reality.
Case in point: This week the North Carolina legislature decreed that planning for coastal flooding should ignore the possibility of sea level rise. Coincidentally, scientists released a study showing the Carolina coast will be inundated more frequently as sea level rise in that area accelerates to be higher than any other point on the East Coast.
This would be funny if it weren't for the fact that these politicians actually think they can change reality by passing laws.
This is along the lines of the bill introduced in Utah a few years back which attacked the problem of π being an irrational number. Apparently, that was just not proper. So, a bill was introduced which declared that π would henceforth be a rational number exactly equal to 3.
Mothers, don't let your idiot offspring to grow up to be politicians.
