New Year Brings Good News For Solar

A Minnesota judge has ruled that solar wins out over natural gas. In a ruling which will be appealed, Administrative Law Judge Eric Lipman concluded that the utility company Geronimo Energy will build about 20 large solar power arrays on sites across Xcel’s service area at a cost of $250 million.

Geronimo Vice President Betsy Engelking remarked on the ruling that “solar is coming in a big way to the country and to Minnesota.”

Reflecting the fact that the cost of solar is coming down much faster than other energy sources, Engleking said it is the first time in the United States that solar energy without a state subsidy has beaten natural gas in an official, head-to-head price comparison.

It's nice to see the trend away from polluting fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy is continuing in the New Year.
